Cleaning your hearing aids daily is optimal for the life of your aids. We recommend you use the wipes that we provided at our office. Do not use anti-bacterial wipes made for surfaces, the chemicals are too harsh. Minimum you should be cleaning ear wax from the dome or earmold that is inserted into your ear canal every day. It is important to clean your ears before putting on your hearing aids. Using a tissue or cotton swab to clean the opening is recommended. Little particles of wax will hinder sound quality and eventually stop the aid from working.
After cleaning your ears and the aid, determine which hearing aid is the right or left by finding the color markings. Red is for the right ear and blue is for the left ear. Place the hearing aid on top of the ear first and using your finger guide the wire down and press the dome into the ear canal. If needed, you can pull back on the ear from behind using your other hand. This will open the ear canal slightly. Next, insert the concha lock "tail". It should curl back into the cup of your ear.
Removing the hearing aid properly will prolong the life of the receiver wire. Grasp the wire in front of your ear and gently pulling the dome loose from your ear canal. Then remove the aid from your ear. The concha lock should not be used to pull the dome out because it will eventually break. Pulling the aid off by grabbing the aid from behind the ear puts too much pressure on the wire and will break where is joins the aid.
Sometimes wax can work its way back behind the dome and clog the wax filter. This will cause the aid to stop working. We replace this as part of your regular clean and check visits but you may find yourself needing to replace it if the aid stops working and you are not able to come to our office. First remove the dome by squeezing it between two fingers and pulling it off. You may get better grip using a tissue or cloth. You will see the white filter in the tip of the receiver. Use the empty side of the filter stick to remove the dirty filter then flip the stick around and insert a clean filter. Replace the dome taking care to check that it is securely fastened. Throw out the used filter stick.
This style of charger is a bit larger and has an internal battery so that the aids can charge without being connected to a power source. Identify the left and right hearing aid and place the aid in the correct side of the charger. Insert the aid in the hole with the wire facing in so that the dome lays inside the opening. You will see the green light on the aid flash when the connection is started. The lights in the center of the charger indicate that the charging box has power to charge the aids if it's unplugged. Close the lid to charge.
This style of charger is a bit smaller and needs to be connected to a power source. Identify the left and right hearing aid and place the aid in the correct side of the charger. Insert the aid in the hole with the wire facing out so that the dome lays inside the opening. You will see the green light on the aid flash when the connection is started. Close the lid to charge.
This style of charger does not have a lid. Identify the left and right hearing aid and place the aid in the correct side of the charger. Insert the aid in the hole so that the wire hangs over the back of the charger. You will see the green light on the aid flash when the connection is started.
