Cleaning your hearing aids daily is optimal for the life of your aids. We recommend you use the wipes that we provided at our office. Do not use anti-bacterial wipes made for surfaces, the chemicals are too harsh. Minimum you should be cleaning ear wax from the hearing aid every day. It is important to clean your ears before putting on your hearing aids. Using a tissue or cotton swab to clean the opening is recommended. Little particles of wax will hinder sound quality and eventually stop the aid from working.
Identify the correct right and left hearing aid. Insert the longer portion of the aid into the ear canal. Wiggle it in if you need a snugger fit. You can also pull back on the ear to open up the canal more by using your other hand at the same time.
Sometimes ear wax can clog the wax filter. This will cause the aid to stop working. We replace this as part of your regular clean and check visits but you may find yourself needing to replace it if the aid stops working and you are not able to come to our office. You will see the white filter in the tip of the aid. Use the empty side of the filter stick to remove the dirty filter then flip the stick around and insert a clean filter. Throw out the used filter stick.
Make sure your charger is fully plugged in. There is a green light on the back of the charger to indicate the charger has power. Insert the correct right and left hearing aid into the correct side of the charger. The charger is designed to match the custom shape of your aid. Close the lid to charge. Solid green lights on the front indicate the aids are charging.
To turn on the hearing aids, press and hold the button until the green light comes on. To turn the volume up, quick press the right ear button. To turn the volume down, quick press the left ear button. To change programs, long press the button and you will hear a beep (these settings may be different depending on your personal programming).
